I just registered :-)
Thanks for the heads up @cmeyer . I registered too , Looks like another stay based bonus with a extra brand bonus. Not great for my style of travel but I think some will like this. I wonder if as usual more options for this bonus exist and are offered to different members ?
Good question, actually!
My guess is that it‘s the same for everyone (especially since there is no target or upper limit to what you can earn).
But who knows...
Thanks, just registered
2K per stay for stays more that 1 night. No upper limit
1 K per brand after the first.
Might have to property hop, I stay for 5 nights, could do 3 and then 2.
I guess I'm just not a points guy, if points are worth a penny each, it just isn't worth it to me to switch hotels for $20.
On the other hand, I do have a couple of 1 night stays I might extend to be relaxed 2 night stays because I was debating 1 vs. two nights already.
I already brand hop regularly.
dougfrisk true but I stay mostly at RI so I am on a 50% reduction in points earned.
I should look at the CY near by, if I hop to it, I get twice the points (for 2 days). I need the kitchen since I make my dinner in the property
I don't understand the point reduction for RI anymore. The rates are so often higher than a CY or Fairfield. Makes it to where if I have to choose between a HGI or RI, i'll go HGI for points alone.
Element was actually downgraded from full earning with SPG.
And the competition
One (1) Grand Prize of twenty-nine (29) 2-night stays at each of the 29 brands of $30,596.80USD maximum value (odds 1: 4,500,000); Eighty-seven (87) 4-night stays of $3,060USD maximum value each (odds 1:52,000); Two million, four hundred and twenty-one thousand and five hundred (2,421,500) Point Wins of $180USD maximum value each (odds 1:2). Is the MegaBonus only on Stays of 2 or more nights? Most of my stays are onesies.
Sounds to me like only stays of 2+ nights count for the 2,000 points bonus.
To get the 1,000 points per brand, any kind of stay seems to work.
I did not read that, but I am hoping you are correct.
Hi Insiders,We are happy to see so much positive feedback about the new MegaBonus! To clarify, you will earn 1,000 points per stay at a new brand starting with the second stay/brand. This part of the promotion does not require a 2+ night stay. We hope this helps. Best,The Community Managers
I just want specific clarification that the first brand will never qualify for the 1000 points at any time? A complete zero point hurdle to jump (as opposed to staying there again after the second brand stay posts)?
That's how it worked last time.
First stay during the promo is a CY. No brand bonus points
Second stay is Renaissance. 1000 bonus points
Third stay, back to CY. No bonus points (you already did that brand)
Fourth stay ResInn. 1000 bonus points.
Fifth stay, another ResInn. No bonus points
Six stay, JW Marriott. 1000 bonus points.
You get the idea.
Last time those extra bonus points did not post until about 6 weeks after the promotion ended
Thanks for humoring me! I recall that last time they retroactively batch posted one cumulative sum. On to determining the most "expendible" brand ...

Well, I'm signed up. Nothing about this MegaBonus is likely to entice me to make extra stays or brand hop any more than usual to earn points.
Of my 9 stays already booked during this promo, only 1 is for more than one night. I'm still planning a couple trips that will likely include a couple 2-3 nights stays, so I may stick with that idea and pick up a few additional bonus points. The last time the brand bonus was in play (summer 2017), I hit something like 11 brands. This time I'll be lucky if I get more to 4 or 5.
I'd say I'll sit this one out, but that's not quite true. I've got travels planned, but unlike some past promotions, I won't be adding anything I wasn't already considering in the hopes of upping my points haul. Perhaps the Spring bonus next year will be more in line with my style of travel.
The rules of this promo will probably work quite OK for me.
Usually, I stay 3-4 night per week, so that will give me 2,000 pts extra each week.
However, that will be pretty much it.
I won‘t have a chance to do property-hopping, and I will most likely stay at no more than 2 different brands during the promo period.
So overall, I should end up at around 30k bonus points. Not bad, but also not brilliant...
Thanks for the heads up! My promotions central still shows 0 new promotions. Have had this glitch since earlier this year...so i have to phone in my registration each time but it seems to work.
Did anyone ever explain why you always have to call in and it just doesn't update for you by clicking on a link from your account?
Yes, I think several have explained this - 'no clickie the linkie'! If there is an IT fail to be found, it will for sure be with the MegaBonus! Why ask why? Sure, it'd be nice for it to smoothly work, but it often doesn't!
But, you don't 'always' have to call - you can also ask communitymanagers to register you!
Or, get a time where it actually worked - which for this one, it wasn't in my profile early on, but I finagled another link to register for it, which is in my comment here: https://insiders.marriottrewards.com/thread/55816#comment-264061
Do communitymanagers still work here? I had kind of gotten the feeling this place was just abandoned.
I could definitely use some help with a few issues if they read this:
I have a case open from Sept. 3 about a missing stay that I also need to get a copy of the folio for (this one night holding up a few thousand dollars of reimbursement for me).
I finally opened a case on the 13th about the fact that my Marriott and SPG accounts are in some hybrid state from when I tried to merge them when that became an option. It failed, but now my SPG account has my Marriott account number and password, so it partially worked. But, I still see all sorts of links urging me to start the process to merge them.
And, finally, related to this thread I do not have a promo and the link doesn't work.
Yes, they are probably SWAMPED with issues!
For the MegaBonus, try the link from my comment: https://insiders.marriottrewards.com/thread/55816#comment-264061. If that doesn't work, just call to be registered.
Wow. That's crazy. So they elected to say x amount of people (control group) will not be eligible for this promotion.
Now I wonder what they used to define said control group. Was it totally random? Only spg people? People who had high (suspicious) activity prior to merge?
Maybe this is an attempt to thin the heard? The possibilities are endless!!!
Many of us of course, understand the purpose of studying data on any promotion Marriott runs (especially now with our new found knowledge of control groups (he said tongue firmly planted in cheek). Currently, probably the most significant results Marriott has on MegaBonuses is disproportionately at a macro level - year vs. year and/or promo vs. promo revenue movement.
We Insiders of course, have written for years, "hey about a tier of bonuses actually geared toward increasing various market segments sales?", so we are not necessarily that far apart from Marriott on the targeted promotions concept. Where the potential risk to us Rewards players comes about, is Marriott's apparent current operational culture. It often seems that when Marriott tests something, it's to reduce costs rather than to increase sales (meaning; rather than attempting to increase each segment, they'll may well approach it from a, "what segments should we just drop and save the points?").
Oh well, whaddaya gonna do? One thing, I'm gonna do, is to not be surprised over the future of MegaBonus potential payout, unless it's pleasantly so . Earn 'em and burn 'em baby.
I do understand the goal to get an idea of how a certain promotion affects the business they get from their customers.
And it will probably work okay, as long as people don’t know they are in the control group.
But once someone figures out that he/she is missing (potentially) lots of bonus points so Marriott can keep their data scientists busy... I for one would be pretty p****d.
I came here to post about William's message myself. As a long-time frequent traveler, I have never heard of a chain doing such a thing in terms of what appears to be a public, general promotion turning out to be targeted?
Edited at add:
When I called Marriott, the phone rep was able to confirm my eligibility and add me almost immediately. I believe that this is not a targeted promotion, but has a nasty glitch for some people's ability to register online.
I agree. All of this harmonizing is causing a few pockets of great disharmony.
"I believe that this is not a targeted promotion, but has a nasty glitch for some people's ability to register online".
I agree, it's not a targeted promo, virtually the opposite of one - it's the "Control Group" that is targeted - for not receiving a MegaBonus promotion offer. I've read William the Lurker for months now, he's nothing if not cautious in his new position. I'm pretty confident he wouldn't state there was a control group unable to participate if Marriott hadn't directed/allowed him to.
As far as 'nasty glitch' in registering for MegaBonus, that's been since the dawn of time, albeit now might even be worse than ever before.
Highlighting the control group statement was to give us a heads up to the fact that Marriott is at least considering 'tweaking' the future MegaBonus (and virtually all 'tweaks' have accrued to their advantage; which is certainly their prerogative - just a heads up of possible declines in the future).
The other takeaway - imagine being in the 'control group' - other than trying to figure out why the heck one was selected, it would also be pretty irritating, after going through SPG benefit decline, status confusion, or just overall customer service snafus. And on top of that, given the integration challenges Marriott has faced (and continues to according to the various forums) it's curious that now of all times, Marriott would be running these type of data tests.
But oh well, that's the loyalty world we play in and Marriott makes the rules (no complaint here, it is what it is) - our best approach is sharing the potential brightlybob lights at the end of the tunnel moments with each other, so at least we're not caught completely off guard.
That light is another train erc, another bloody train!
Yeah it appears they might be going the IHG Accelerate route were everyone gets a different offer based on their previous stay history...
While some members may not see the offer, this is open to all Marriott Rewards and SPG members. If you are having trouble registering, please send us a support request form found at the top of this page under the "support" tab. You can also call Customer Care.
If accurate, that's good to hear (and sadly, none of us out there can 'guarantee' that either group of "Social Media Specialists" have been given correct data - we have seen both CMs and Lurkers state things that were corrected/revised/changed afterword - it's not their fault, just their job).
Someone should advise William the Lurker over on FlyerTalk, who not only stated the "Control Group" item (Post #159), but observed dozens of negative responses (understandably so) prior to responding to other non-registration issues. It would be a shame to lose him so quickly after just getting him . He's already had to clarify Post #125.
Chalk one up for the communitymanagers they were the lucky recipients of accurate information this time.
Here's the summary (two days later) over on FlyerTalk -
MegaBonus in More Places is open to all Marriott Rewards and SPG members. If you are having trouble registering please, contact us and we can help. Best Regards, R Walker Social Media Specialist
I went into my account and clicked on promotions. It said register for any you like but it said you have zero promotions available
Ugh! I still can't register!
I also could not register, but I sent a help request (via an old thread), and the community managers signed me up.
