Who has been to Korea??? Suggestions for where to stay for a 4 day visit please. Marriott or SPG group. Prefer to be close to shopping, good food and touristy stuff. thanks
JW Marriott Dongdaemun is awesome, if you score one of the rooms looking over the gate it is really nice at night. Lots to do in the area Cheonggyecheon creek is right there, Gwangjang Market is a short walk, Jinokhwa Halmae Wonjo for chicken soup (busy hours be ready to wait).
These are videos I made:
Jinokhwa Halmae Wonjo
This one will also give you an idea of the area.
Directions for Jinokhwa Halmae Wonjo Dakhanmari
Videos were amazing....cant wait to go and eat and eat, ha
I agree. The JW Marriott is excellent. Good location, and the pool in the basement is outstanding and full size (you have to wear a swim cap). Executive Lounge has great views. Bus service to and from the international airport is easy to access, although I believe they now have an express train service, but I have not used that.
If the JW is too expensive then try Sheraton. Also, Courtyard Namdaemun is a great hotel. Lots of shopping and things to do all around there, and great views of the city. Lounge on the 22nd floor serves great breakfast and dinner...free if you have Gold or Platinum status.
I am now just getting around to booking hotel....I am going for the JW. thanks:)
We stayed at the Courtyard Times Square. It is a bit out from the main city, but there is a subway stop right across the street. The hotel is connected to a great mall and the area has some great, authentic restaurants. We did not miss a thing by staying there. Plus, when we stayed, it was a Category 5 hotel so we used the travel package.
Visit itawon its a large street shopping district at night
I was stationed in Korea for a year but that was almost 20 years ago jerryl is right, Itaewon is (was) a lot of fun. I was stationed up North but we would try to get down to Seoul every few months to hit the bars and such. I hear now its a great area for shopping, nightlife, and has become a real touristy-foodie type area. I would love to go back and see it now, you should try and get to the Itaewon district for some food and drinks, everything I have read about it in its present day form sounds great.
