With the new Award Tiers, will this affect or completely remove the 7 night hotel and flight miles program? What will happen for people that have already booked for dates after the conversion?
I haven't seen this award in any of the literature for the new program and will assume that it's gone the way of the 5th night free perk. It was nice while it lasted, and just like Dylan once said, the times, they are a changin'
Hotel+Air packages will still exist, but the point values will most likely change.
Your reward bookings will not change, they will be honored UNLESS you make a change to the reservation after Aug 1, then they will be factored into the new award chart. So, make sure you have ALL of your award reservations solidified by July 31!
I am so glad I logged in as I have the exact same question. I just called Marriott rewards and they had no information on this. So can anyone confirm that if we book say a category 5 hotel with say 120,000 SWA points (for a total of 270,000pts) that we can still upgrade our certificate to a higher category hotel if we need to change the reservation next year? I typically like to book these packages to take advantage of gaining as many Southwest points as possible and am wondering if I should make a reservation with the current system before August. I appreciate anyone’s thoughts who may know more about the changes coming to the program as the Marriott rewards customer service people have no idea how to direct me. Thanks so much!
The answer for your scenario I would say is YES, you can upgrade the reservation next year, BUT you would then need major points to upgrade it via the "new current program certificate" point standards (new system current points, not old system 30k points)! With things going down to 8 categories, there would also need to be some type of mapping between old category certificates and new category certificates to get the required point values.
Thanks. So are you saying it’s going to cost a lot more points next year to get rooms using reward points?
Yes, up to 100k:
Some properties supposedly will go down, some will go up, but ones that cost over 60k/night today to book, you'll be able to book those at 60k max until the end of the year, the "Standard" chart will be used for all properties this year.
