The Yankees home opener was postponed a day because of snow and the Cubs home opener was also snowed out this year. Given the peculiar weather this Spring, i’d believe almost anything about the Marriott/SPG merger......except a working intergration on or by August 1st. We’ll see.
On a a personal note......the thresholds (tiers) would not change my stay patterns with either Marriott or SPG. Points and Mega Bonuses drive my stays. It would however make it easier to have reciproacal Ambassador status. I LIKE THAT!

Was rumored a few days ago about SPG website going off by August 1st and nobody believed it. Now we know that probably it was true.

Having or creating a new program doesn't necessarily mean "Implementing" a new program. I still find it hard to believe that any new loyalty program would be implemented mid way through the year. Can you imagine the customer confusion and IT mess we would have if this happened! My guess is that they would announce a new combined loyalty program in the second half of this year to become effective 1/1/18 at the earliest.

The speculation is very interesting, but leaves me with growing anxiety!

We all know that there is a new joint programme coming into existence next year. We SPG members have been expecting it for some time . To let everyone know what it is going to be in the second half of this year is very sensible. To have it up and running half way through a qualification year would be utter madness. There are still too many problems to be ironed out with the technology for this to happen. For myself, I will qualify for Lifetime Platinum with SPG on June 5th so whatever changes are made will not dramatically affect me. My hotel bookings are made for the rest of this year and fixed. I will look at the new programme and decide what to do as regards my travels next year. If I wish to I can just pick and choose the best deals for me from any suppliers.
I was just looking at google maps at Toronto Airport to find a restaurant named Chop, which was in the Sheraton Toronto Airport but is now shown on google maps as in the Renaissance Toronto Airport East. Chop did not move. I wondered when the re branding would start.
Did anyone not believe the beginning of the end for SPG started almost 2 years ago when a bigger brand purchased them? I do think (at least early on), much of SPG will be preserved. 2-3+ years from now though, once the branding potentially disappears, what will remain from the core of the SPG program...
...Since Marriott named the SPG loyalty head (Dave Fleuck) CLO (Chielf Loyalty Officer) for Marriwood, as long as he wasn't placed just to be the figurehead to create the new program (and then go away with several $$$ in stock), I think in a couple of years, the new Marriwood Preferred Guest program will look almost the same as it does once it's launched.
