There's a rumor making the rounds that the SPG website will be taken offline permanently on 01 August 2018:
Marriott has payed a very straight bat on the merger so far and has good form for doing so when making big changes, namely it gives notice and lots of it. The last big change to the scheme was a decade ago and Marriott announced the changes 3 months before they happened. At the moment I firmly believe Marriott is aiming the new combined program to launch in January 2019 and Marriott will therefore make the announcement sometime around October. Note, my opinion is based on no inside info whatsoever but I reckon it’s a darn sight better based than that ridiculous rumour!
Now hold on there brightlybob. This rumour appeared on the interweb. It MUST be true. LOL
At some point the SPG site will go away. It won't happen quite so soon.
We'll be lucky to have a combined program at the start of 2019. That still looks like the most likely time even with everything that will still need to be done.
LOL the chat...
I liked the old Marriott site better than this new one. I didn't like the SPG site when I had to book a few hotels in the past. I like the images!!! more images of hotel rooms. Marriott you can click on the images and scroll thru the room ones. You can't do that on the SPG site, at least not while in booking mode. You have to go to another page.
The future is around mobile not websites. Branded hotel website traffic is down 40% year over year and Marriott knows this.
Mobile will eclipse websites in traffic and hotel bookings within 3-5 years if not sooner.
The latest industry trends indicate that mostly AARP eligible people still remain loyal to website booking sites as a primary source of reservations.
These websites will become redundant and there demise to obscurity will accelerate when in 2020 5G capable handsets begin to arrive in North America.
Hoteliers will be spending much more time and money making sure their mobile assets are up to standards than any of these legacy sites.
The future is here and mobile is it.
Bring on mobile, I'm ready baby!
When AutoCad can perfect their app, that will be amazing! You can already log in from pretty much any device and edit a drawing in a more "simple" interface...and I haven't used it on a iPhone, but man it is tiny!!! I already use 2 screens at work.
We have a long way to go!
I did notice that my mobile app acct for Marriott is more up to date than the desktop. Points go to the app before they hit the desktop. However, when booking and surfing, the desktop is easier to navigate, at least for now.
I want erc's tablet, such a big screen!
I know he told platpboy4ever he uses an iPad, but I am pretty sure that's the device email@example.com really uses as a telestrator for his room picture mark-ups

Uggg... reminds me why I used to turn the sound off whenever Madden was doing the broadcast!
Hopefully whenever it does happen Marriott shifts whatever IT people it takes to operate and manage the SPG site and devotes those resourses to getting the Marriott site and app bugs worked out!
Sounds like Marriott (atleast what i've seen so far). Outsource programming with a deadline... release it without testing (cause it doesn't look like they have any testing / QA mechanism) .... and then chaos.
I think the only IT thing that went well so far in this merger is the reciprocal benefits (maybe cause SPG IT was involved).
Hey UA, how them Lifetime Points been treating ya?!
I agree with global, mobile is where it's at and where it's going to be - what I have going for me on my farm here in Lancaster, Pa. is that it apparently will take Marriott several more years to get to that point -
After talking on the phone with SPG (chasing missing Green Choice points) and using my immense stupendous Schmoozing (capital S) flirting skills, here is what the SPG call rep told me about all of this. We will see some changes before 2019, but the SPG website is not going away August 1st. She (SPG rep) went on to say total intergration isn’t likely until mid-year 2019. She also informed me that I was really funny. I took it as a compliment. Oh, and my Green Choice points are supposed to show up on my account tomorrow. We’ll see.
Given that the Marriott web site looks like it was put together as a grade school science assignment, I don't believe this rumor is true. Marriott revamped a good web site and turned it into one of the most difficult, ugliest messes I've ever seen a real company create. If they extend this disease, someone in their corporate office is a complete idiot.
This rumour first surfaced on flying pigs .com and was then picked up by North Korea 's "We know the truth .com " ending up on here via the always correct " Vlad Putin's daily universal misinformation .rus.
Never a truer word said there, brianandlin!
I know you're not telling the truth, because .rus is not a TLD.
I can believe that the coders are requested to have the new website operational for August 1st, but only to have it available for some serious beta testing for the remainder of the calendar year.
They can't just roll it out right away. They can't be doing it wrong or everybody will jump ship.
