For example, the Renaissance hotels are 10 points per dollar spent on qualifying charges.
Per the Terms and Conditions:
"Charges that do not qualify for Points include taxes applied to the room rate, purchase of Marriott gift certificates or gift cards, purchase of The Ritz-Carlton gift certificates or gift cards, charges for third party-provided goods and services at participating Marriott brand hotels or Ritz-Carlton hotels, and catering or banquet functions charged to the guest room account."
A good example of a qualifying charge would be food/beverage from the hotel restaurant charged back to the room. Things like spa services (where available) would also qualify. When in doubt, charge everything you can back to the room at any of the brands where "qualifying charges" earn points. Odds are, most of them will count (parking sometimes does and sometimes doesn't).
