we had gold status for years now, but failed last year, would love to buy the status back.... what do we have to do... OR how to enlist for a gold challenge?
Unfortunately, Marriott has discontinued the buyback program. You will no longer have the ability to buyback your status. As for the challenge, please see the following message posted on the front page of the site:
Due to the specific nature of Elite Status Challenges, Insiders is not the destination for answering your questions and requests regarding Status Challenges. For any inquiries, members can call 801-468-4000 in the United States and Canada. Members located outside the US and Canada can find the appropriate Customer Service number here: Marriott Rewards Phone Number and Customer Service Information. Thank you for your understanding!
Here's a reply from Marriott about the Elite Status Buy-Back program (from their buyback email address):
Dear [insert name here], Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards. As we work on merging the Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest programs, the Marriott Rewards and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards are making program changes to ensure that our most loyal Marriott Rewards and SPG Elite members who have linked their accounts and received a status match are able to enjoy their earned Elite benefits on a consistent basis. The 2017 calendar year will be the last year the Elite Buy Back promotion will be offered. Members were able to buy back the Elite status that they enjoyed during the 2016 calendar year if they did not have the required nights to renew their Elite status for the 2017 calendar year. Members will not receive the buy back offer for the 2018 calendar year. Marriott Rewards members need to reach 10 nights for the Silver level, 50 nights for the Gold level, or 75 nights for the Platinum level. To achieve any Elite level, members must stay the required number of nights in a calendar year, January 1 to December 31. Please visit the following link for additional information concerning Elite membership: http://www.marriott.com/rewards/terms/elite.mi If you have any additional questions about the Marriott Rewards program or your Marriott Rewards account, please reply to this message. I’m here to help! We're excited for the future of Marriott and Starwood and we hope that you will be too. Sincerely, Esther Internet Correspondence Specialist Marriott Rewards Guest Services
