Really disappointed by the Platinum gift this year, perhaps I am just remembering when the gifts were useful!
staceyf, can you share a picture?
Here you go nationwide
Kind of like the old Charlie Brown Halloween special..... "I got a rock...."......
Kind of makes you wish you could get a Cat 5 certificate.....
I just received mine today. What, pray tell, am I supposed to do with this?
LoL....Frisbee in your hotel room for free entertainment and then journal about it in your new leather journal...
Actually, it just made me feel ignorant. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it and couldn't figure out what it is supposed to do. It came with a small notebook, but can neither connect to that, not wrap around it. Was there some other gift that I misplaced or accessory in Marriott hotel rooms that I haven't noticed, that this is supposed to connect with? I was just at Courtyard on Tuesday and don't recall any place in the room where this would connect. My wife's guess is that you "set things on it" but if that's correct, why does it have the snaps like it does?
Merriam-Webster defines a valet as "valet: an employee (as of a hotel or a public facility) who performs personal services for customers". Clearly this leather(?) square with snaps is NOT an employee. But WHAT IS IT?
Definitely not as useful as the bluetooth speaker we got one year. Heck, I would prefer to get a nice engraved-metal luggage tag like the one SouthWest Airlines gave their elite members a few years ago. Much more practical than this leather-coaster.
I am still trying to figure out what that this is for. Just stupid I guess.
luther7271 I use it every week I travel. It fits in my briefcase easily, and when I have it formed, I put my wallet, keys, watch, etc in it when I am in the room.
I too scratched my head for a couple days on it as well, but like nipper I've actually found the Valet to be helpful and I use it regularly now. travel valet pp gift
As a Platinum getting downgraded to Gold, I got a Gold Elite leaflet. But not even a membership card, so this may be a PP gift on itself!
and I have not received anything.
So, what is the "Travel Valet" used for? Sorry, it looks like a fake piece of leather that has no purpose. Exactly how does it help me "organize my travels"??
I use one when traveling - it's a useful place to put your wallet, keys, wedding ring, loose change, and any other stuff you had in your pockets.
How to use the valet. Not a Marriott valet pictured as i haven’t received mine yet.
Thanks for the pic - I was having an Ed Norton moment - "That is be-you-tee-ful Ralph, What is it?"
At least now I know what it is.
Oh THAT's what that is. Mine has been on my desk for a couple of days and I could NOT figure out what it was or how it was used. Now that I know... well, I guess I can impress my co-workers with it on my desk.
You will be the envy of the office now.
Many thanks for this photo. I spent 30 minutes trying to fit the snaps into something useful and then just pitched this in the trash and kept the nice notebook.
I still think the best Rewards gift I've ever gotten was the cell phone charger stick. I used that thing all the time until it eventually died and would not charge any more. The Bluetooth speaker was cool, too, but mine slid off the toilet tank while taking a shower and was never the same again...
Thank you. I didn't have a clue what to do with this thing. I suppose I'm not "cultured" enough... I would have preferred a few thousand points instead.
OMG, my wife was right, it's a coaster to set things on to protect their furniture and keep small items together.
I have enough stuff to carry when I travel. I think I'll continue using the paper-coasters that are usually in the hotel room.
So how many women empty their pockets when they walk into their room?
This valet is beyond a waste for me.
Agreed...this gift is pretty gender specific. Extremely disappointing.
This is very disappointing regardless of gender!
I don't empty my pockets, but I usually take my rings and watch off. I was thinking the other day about this... I thought I would get one myself (not a Marriott one, but I am sure amazon has them) as it doesn't take up much room and will collapse.
I am sure I am one in a few, but I thought it useful.
Still, I can see how this would be a disappointing gift when PP spend TONS of money at Marriott.
Well, you could ship it across to the poor PPE in the UK who dont get anything....
communitymanagers are UK Platinum Premiers getting a gift of some description?.
Thank you for reaching out! We have connected with our team to have them look into your question and they have let us know that Platinum Premier gifts will only be available to US members.
Thats a great shame, its is much more difficult to achieve PPE in the UK, we dont get great Credit card Deals, or even have that many Marriotts unless you work in the bigger cities..., but thank you for asking!
What a joke. Only available to US members. Doesn't my spending and loyalty count? Disgraceful.
Obviously not..... 1000 nights... millions of points..... PPE......... but a UK Passport.... maybe not this item but something would be nice, I could chip in for postage...... how about some points? to add to the 1,000,000 ( yes you read it correct ) that I will earn in a 12 month period by staying in Hotels, booking meetings etc not earned by taking out credit cards etc etc
Same for me, have been PP for years but living in CH and not having US passports. Disappointing from Marriott Rewards.
Don’t underestimate the value of the Valet. MacGyver once got an upgrade to a Marriott hotel using one.
Atleast it's something? Maybe when they launch the new rewards program, they will have a much more lucrative gift for the platinum premier equivalent (but probably with even harder qualifications).
Well.. anyone who does not want theirs can you send them over the pond to the poor PPE in the UK who do not get anything whatsoever......
Amazon has one for $7.99.
After spending Saturday disassembling a sectional because my wife couldn't find her wedding ring (the really expensive one, not the gold band) which had been on the table next to the couch, I think it could be useful for both sexes. Making matters worse we have a new (large) dog and had fears of where the ring ended up.
However I was able to find it deep in the bowels of the couch
My dog Earl ate an aquamarine stone that fell out of my ring. We were playing in the back yard and he found it in the grass before me. After 2 weeks I gave up on....well trying to find it.
I have panicked many times over losing my ring b/c I can't remember where I took it off. So glad you found it!
I ordered this one yesterday:
Leather Valet Tray - Embossed with Gold Snaps – SIVEL+SHARP | Menswear + Accessories
can be ordered on Amazon.
It is not real leather.
I also like this guys story, and served in the US Navy. Great logo.
About S+S -The Story Behind The Name – SIVEL+SHARP | Menswear + Accessories
seatexan Yea I had thought we were going to be "searching" as well.
We have 2 big dogs, twice the fun. :-)
I hope your new dog is settling in well.
Life everyday! Maybe I need 2 valets!!!
Agreed that this is a very lame gift. The last 2 years have been pretty weak with not very useful gifts. A few years back they sent a portable power bar which I thought was great until it stopped working. They also need to send instructions or pictures as to how to assemble. I have never heard or seen one of these and had no idea how it worked or what it was for.
Forgive me, but I like the travel valet - very useful to me. And it is a FREE gift - stop your complaining. rcg
It is by far the dumbest and most useless gift that Marriott has ever sent out.
A total waste of money and the time they spent creating it.
I actually thought the tile from a couple of years ago was the most worthless gift but this ranks right up there. Actually, the only gift that was decent was the Bluetooth speaker. The power cord from last year has already come apart at the plug so it's no longer safe to use.
I LOOOOVE the tile! I use it all the time.
Power cord doesn’t work?
My only (posted) complaint is that they assumed I would know what it was or how to "activate" it. It wouldn't have cost ANYTHING for them to include it in the photo materials that they already attached.
Fortunately for me, having a brain is not a qualification for Platinum.... I received my notebook and 'valet' a week or so ago and honestly, I had no idea what it was supposed to be. there were no directions and I simply could not figure out how to snap it into any worthwhile shape.... Boy do I feel dumb....
In my opinion, it's a pretty dumb present, but OI do appreciate the effort by Marriott.
Don’t feel dumb. The only reason I’m here right now was to figure out what the hell it is and how to use it. I had tried everything and had no clue.
I'm still waiting to receive my "box" from Marriott, if it comes soon, I can take it to China
usuallyinchina funny, mine will be heading the the JW in Beijing this weekend.
nipper, safe travels, I am going "home" to the Marriott in Ningbo and then I am going to try the Renaissance Yu Garden in Shanghai. Maybe I will take the valet into the executive lounge and see if anyone asks what it is haha
First they take United Gold away and now to add insult to injury they insult us with a useless $7.99 gift. This company is going downhill fast.
The best part about this gift was that I got a really good laugh out of it!
The very first PP gift.
Hey everyone whining about the gift...it was free!!! Are you a member because of the token gifts? I know I'm not. I'm in it for the great places to stay! And I'm so very happy they hooked up with SPG - we used Marriott points for the Sheraton Black Rock, Maui last year as well as the Marriott Waikiki!
BTW, for the woman/women wondering what they can do with the valet - you can place it on the desk in the room and put your jewelry in it. How about your phone while it's charging? Maybe your extra room key, or your glasses/sunglasses. I know, I'm a guy, but I know I pile all sorts of stuff on the desk.
My daughter and me at 90' looking at a WWII Corsair wreck off of Oahu.
PS I love the cord holder we received in 2016. I use it on every trip. It holds my Fitbit cord, iPhone cord, and wireless headphones cord. I use the little pocket it has for an emergency USB battery I received as a gift. It fits perfectly and has come in handy on long flights where the seat power isn't working (a Delta phenomenon).
I agree with you. Free is free. However, since I’m still waiting on this years PP gift, in the meantime while I wait here is a free Valet hack.
Wow, really poor. One thing I did learn, was that I didn't get The Bluetooth speaker last year.
the cell phone battery was nice.
I think this is what it's for?
LOL. A new fashion trend with a Marriott twist...
This is actually what I am doing with mine right now. Hahahaha. The only thing I could think of to use it for.
Glad I found this site because I could not for the life of me figure out how to use it.
email@example.com wins......Arrrr matey. communitymanagers give that person some Reward points for best original use of the PP Valet.
Here are my ideas:
A Cuss Caddy
A Treat Tray or Candy Carry-all
A Coupon Curio
Or just a boring Valet
LOL these are great!
Once I learned what it was and how it worked, I like it. I use the cable organizer from last year on every trip. This little tray organizer is going to be handy also.
I am a lifetime Platinum and stay well over the needed nights and I have NEVER received a Platinum gift. Am I missing something?
No its for Platinum Premier Elites not LTP........... who happen to live in the USA
What is Platinum Premier Elites? I stay over 100 nights a year in Marriott...125ish last year...???
PP is the highest Elite status in Marriott that is for the Top 2 or 3% of Platinum members and is selected by Marriott rather than based upon # of nightly stays. The status is therefore somewhat mysterious. My status this year was based upon over $14K spend with Marriott and 193 nights. Not too much is known specifically how the selection is made, but probably somewhat based upon track record with Marriott over the years, # of nights, Top revenue generators, maybe even perhaps Marriott VISA card use (not sure really), etc... it is somewhat elusive to pin down the criteria. It is good for the year it is given, isn't a Lifetime status, and includes some of what was mentioned in the above posts. Hope that helps! Cheers!
My understanding is, PP is based on the amount of dollars spent at Marriott and total stays. The top 3% become PP and its a yearly status. There may be more to it but that's what I was told. Its definitely not known or understood very well by those who work for Marriott. Believe me I have asked. So hard to actually find out how they determine it.
And other than the valet Frisbee, there's no other benefit to PP. No extra points and no UA Gold.
You also receive the Hertz President's Circle status and a dedicated PP Telephone line. But, agree, not any real value beyond bragging rights that you're a road warrior for staying so many nights away from home.
Getting Hertz President's Circle isn't a benefit for me since I already rent from them by the month. If I flew more, I wouldn't worry about UA Gold but I don't so it was a real benefit to me. As for me, I don't brag that I spend over 200 nights a year in a Marriott property. Most people think I'm crazy to be gone that much (including my wife).
I’m either giving it to my granddaughter to use as a doll baby bed or using it as a frisbee with the puppy. I must say the packaging is quite impressive.
It took me a minute or two to figure out what the hell it was. But I find it useful to be honest with you. Its a good place to stash your keys wallet, etc. while in your hotel room. I use it in the closet at home for misc. stuff too. Its not much when you consider I've been with Marriott for over 22 years, over 2200 stays, lifetime platinum, and currently platinum premier. But its better than a stick in the eye.
What's a Platinum Gift? Been Platinum for 7 or 8 years and have never gotten a Platinum Gift. And yes, I'm in the US.
The gift is for Platinum Premier (PP) members in the US, not Platinum Elite. It changes each year. This year it's a travel valet and journal. Last year it was a cable pouch and a phone charger cable. A couple of years ago it was a Bluetooth speaker.
After reading the large number of negative comments about the travel valet gift to PP members, it is clear my wife and I are in the minority. We are always looking for a place to put our room key, car key, wallet/money clip, watch and jewelry, glasses/sunglasses, valet claim ticket, breakfast coupon, lose change, etc, etc. In fact, I wish we had gotten two of them because I can see that my wife will quickly take this as her own.
My husband and I have been using one for years, and every time we travel separately, there's a moment of "Who gets the valet?" So when he got PP this year and opened this, we were happy for the backup.
I was ready to throw it out, WoW laughable Gift.
I didn't know what it was at first, but now I'm glad for it. We like to cruise and I'm always worried about losing the small stuff. This will come in handy on the ship!
I did have to search to figure out what to do with it and I guess it makes sense, but I won’t be emptying pockets into it. I think it could also be used as a mouse pad, since many Marriott hotels have desks with glass surfaces and my mouse doesn’t work well.
At least you received something...because I am lifetime platinum does that mean I no longer receive a gift?
hopetix I think these are sent to PP only and not all PLT.
I am LTP and PP and received it. I think I missed 1 in the last 5 years (only PLT and not PP that year)
Didn't receive it..So sad..
HUH, I have been Platinum for 7 years in a row. I get the pamphlet each year but have NEVER received a gift. Wow. I appear to be missing out on SWAG.
Platinum Elite do not qualify for the gift - you would need Platinum Premier Elite - which is invitation only given out annually to the top % of members with the most stays. In the current program - Marriott doesn't advertise exactly how many stays are required to get the invitation - but I am assuming that Platinum Premier Elite with ambassador would be the equivalent in the new program.
Platinum Elite with 100 nights and $20k in qualifying spend
Roy (can't tag usernames that are an email address) & greenit : the title is confusing. Only Platinum Premier Elite members that are US residents will receive an annual gift.
Cool. I live in Austin Texas. Last time I checked Texas yea not succeeded yet.
I have never received anything.
indysam this is for 2017 Platinum Premier Elites, not Platinum Elites or for the 2018 new Rewards Program Tiers. We're not really sure it will be something that goes forward in 2019 as it appears the PP Elite Ambassador tier may have taken the place of the old yearly gift. If you stayed in a Marriott in 2017 about 200 nights and spent north of $14K in that year just on the hotel room, then Marriott probably owes you a gift. If you were "Platinum" for 2017 and didn't have a high dollar spend, then you didn't qualify. The PPE gift is for the Top 2% of Marriott travelers. The exact details on what qualifies and what is excluded is not published by Marriott, so the PPE Tier and gift was secretive, which made it all the more covetted. Hope that helps.
platinum primiere status pp gift new program old vs new
PP are also know as Those Travelers Without a Life. You see a lot of 200+ nights a year in this group.
Amen to what nipper said
I'm PP again for 2018 and never got the gift. Based on what people have said about it, it doesn't appear I've missed much. Personally I'd rather have points.
