I use to get a package where I could transfer Marriott points to air miles and receive a five day hotel package for different hotel levels. Can I still do that?
vonbare, yes, you can still get travel packages that combine air and hotel. However, they only come in 7 day packages now, unless you are a Marriott timeshare owner, in which case you can still book a 5 day package. Many folks have found it still to be worthwhile to purchase these packages, as overall they offer some points savings over doing them separately. It's important to take a hard look at the best deals you can get separately to comparatively shop them. Hope this helps!
You might take a look at this link Where Would You Use a 7 Night Marriott Rewards Travel Package Redemption? and others like it to get some solid ideas on where to use a redemption of this length.
Thanks for your reply about 5 vs 7 nights. I am a time share owner so understand I can do 5 nights, but how do you actually purchase it? How do you buy the plane ticket using points? I read it can take 6 weeks for points to be converted to miles so I'm not understanding how you find the ticket, and pay with points.
Call Marriott Rewards Customer Service to order the 5 night Hotel/Air Package as they will have to validate your eligibility. You will also need to have an airline picked out that you want to receive points/miles for and your account number for the airline. You will then have a 5 night hotel certificate based upon the category you choose added to your Marriott Rewards account which is valid for one year and can be renewed or upgraded if needed. The number of airline points/miles you receive will depend upon which package you choose and with most airlines are credited within a few days. You can then book award travel directly with the airline. Your 5 night hotel certificate and airline miles do not have to be used for the same trip.
How do you make the purchase for the flight and or with the packaged nights?
You don't 'convert' points to miles, you use points to 'purchase' a Hotel + Air package by booking it with Marriott. You get the hotel certificate based on whichever category hotel you select, and the miles are deposited into the airline you select, based on the participating airlines. This is based on the link wiscfriend sent you.
If the airline you select is United, you can get 30% bonus miles until Nov. 30th (156k miles vs. 132k).
I wonder if you are referring to the Travel Packages that are still listed on the Marriott website. The link is: Flight and Hotel Packages | Marriott Hotel Packages
The web page says that this limited time offer expires September 30, 2017, so I don't know if it's still valid. Maybe communitymanagers can give some more insight into what travel packages are available for MR points.
SPG has a similar program called Nights and Flights, so if you can't get something through Marriott, you may want to call Starwood and see if they can help you. You'd have to transfer points, but I'm presuming you have enough if you're asking about these packages.
