New York Hotels now charging destination fee at all Marriott's . Is there any way to get round this?
Try calling the hotel and telling them you will choose a different hotel because of the new fees. If everyone does this may be it will change.
Before booking, I called The Lexington to get the "complete" list of what's included in their $25 Destination Fee. Asked question of operator thinking I would be transferred but she was very knowledgeable and she explained a hodgepodge of benefits (I didn't write down). The one thing that stuck with me when I questioned the fee by explaining that we were Platinum was that it is "appreciated by people who aren't Marriott Rewards Members." This "strategy" equals LESS benefit for Marriott's/Lexington's most loyal customers.
Yes, ks83, The Lex's price is still less even with $25 added on and it's our favorite NYC hotel. BUT we don't plan to use any of these new benefits (except possibly water which we can/will buy on our own). As we get closer to dates of visit with our reservations finalized, I plan to call and talk with the GM about the fee and, as long time/loyal Lex customers, the fact that we "are" staying elsewhere. As a 1st, we now have a reservation at Marriott East Side across the street - also with $25 Destination Fee but a full-service Marriott with a MClub that Lex doesn't have. C
