Marriott App check in and Key problem

Last three places I've "app" checked in - three separate locations I've used The app to check in. Each time, initially my room keys given to me didn't function. The problem was easily solved - just a quick run back to the front desk and the staff fixed it in 10 seconds with an apology.

 

im just pointing it out that it's a possible process flaw. I'm wondering if I "check in" remotely 6 hours before (or even longer sometimes) if they program the keys at that time or just set them aside to be programmed later and forget that step - or its different staff altogether unsure if the keys were programmed already. Of course, could be a coincidence. One of the locations asked if my keys were placed near a cellphone (they were - in my pocket by my iPhone 6s) as if that's the explanation? Not sure if that can happen but I think my cellphone was only next to the keys twice - although can't be 100% on that.
