Do my MR points expire if I reach LT Platinum?
worldwidetraveler, the answer is no. There is no expiration date on your points once you become a LTP. Of course, prior to that point, you can easily push your expiration date out by earning or using points. The easiest thing to do is use the Marriott credit card each month, thereby earning more points.
All of this is based on the current Marriott Rewards program, so we will have to confirm whether or not there are any changes to expiry once the programs combine late next year. This piece is so fundamental to lifetime status, however, that I am very doubtful we will see any changes. It would cause major upheaval if the significant point stashes of Lifetime Platinum guests were all of a sudden subject to expiration.
platpboy4ever, thanks for pulling up the official policy. Glad I got it correct Qualifying activity is so easy, I can't imagine someone letting points actually expire.
However, if they put an expiration on large LTP stashes, more stringent than what everyone else sees at 2 years (which I cannot imagine them doing), there would be a platinum exodus. Road warriors save these points for entire careers, in the hopes they can travel with their loved ones during retirement. If Marriott made the mistake of jeopardizing that pursuit, beyond the already constant category devaluation activity, lifetime would be rendered worthless in my book.
To your second point, nationwide, yes that would be a disaster. My airline loyalty program up here tried that to great uproar. They eventually backed down, but i decided to cash out all my points for best western gift cards and as a result have Christmas presents for my kids for the next five or so years.I still use the airline as there is little choice, but collect through United.
Just for clarity, the way that i read the rule. I read it to say "Elite Lifetime member" I would take that to include lifetime silver, gold and platinum. Being one who was late to the table with Marriott, having been a Wyndham loyalist for many years, I am still a long way away from lifetime plat and for that matter gold, but this may be the only reasonable advantage of lifetime silver.
Am I reading the rule correct?
I'd say you are correct. It says "Elite Lifetime member." Lifetime Silver is still an elite lifetime member.
Good to know as I expect to cross 1.2 million lifetime points next month. If I can figure out a fast track to 1.6M, I could make LTG next year. Gotta reach LTS first though.
You are doing well bejacob, we were about tied the last time there was a check in on status, i am doing great nights wise almost at 500, but still only 1M points. It has been a bit of a slow last 12 months for me, with less trips, poor fall mega bonus and our dollar being down. Things will get better in the fall, and hopefully we will see a mega bonus in the fall that is better than last year. I hope to cross LTS sometime next year.
Yes peymanagement I believe there is verbiage elsewhere that specifies Lifetime Silver, Gold & Platinum. I'll see if I can dig it up...
Got it. See the bottom
