I am headed to Washington, DC for a week with my wife and 11 year old daughter. What would be your hotel suggestion for us. Thank you.
A Lot depends on your needs . I have stayed at crystal gateway marriott which has direct access to metro. I have also stayed at jw in dc which is near the white house. Price/ points will be an issue and will you have transportation or willing to use metro . once you provide a little more clarity there will be a lot of suggestions.
Both of jerryl 's suggestions are good ones. The staff at the Crystal Gateway is truly outstanding. It is not extremely convenient to DC but is pretty well located if Safetrack doesn't interfere during your time here. Crystal Gateway is very convenient to Arlington Cemetery and is closer to Mount Vernon, Old Town Alexandria, and Reagan National Airport than DC hotels. There are other excellent choices depending on where you wish to visit and the Safetrack schedule. Safetrack is a Metro refurbishment program that is shutting down large portions of Metro at various times throughout the year. Go to the WMATTA web site Home | WMATA and check the maintenance schedule for when you will be in DC and make sure that maintenance will not interfere with what you have planned.
Some other hotel locations that might be good choices are the Key Bridge Marriott (great views from many of the rooms (of Georgetown, the Potomac and DC). Close to Rosslyn Metro on Blue, Orange and Silver Lines.
Wardman Park Marriott which is on Red line and close to National Zoo.
Washington Marriott at Metro Center Close to center of DC and all Metro lines.
The Mayflower Hotel, Autograph Collection Close to center of DC and all Metro lines.
I Have also stayed at key bridge and enjoyed it but other than a decent trec into arlington not as near public transportation . Again once there is some clarity regarding desired logistics it will become an easier. There is also a residence inn in Arlington if one is looking for a little larger room
Key Bridge Marriott is two blocks from Metro!
Mariott at Metro Centre I have stayed at the other Marriott's in the area, but this one was great. Blocks away from the Whitehouse, museums and the Metro station right there. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful. There is a Starbucks and restaurant in the hotel. There are an abundance of restaurants around and plenty of shopping. My room was clean, fully stocked, bed comfy, included a fridge, large tv, and I had a great view! I recommend this hotel. Take care with the parking reates the are extremely expensive but there's a public parking place right by the hotel.
Price is good. If you can spend a bit more JW is a really great full service hotel.
While not in DC proper I thoroughly enjoyed the Ritz Pentagon city. If you happen to have the Ritz card, it can sometimes be found for under 200$ a night with a club level upgrade certificate being used. While not the most modern hotel, the staff and food offerings in the club level were amazing.
Also has great access with metro station directly outside the front door.
