JW Marriott Indianapolis - Another Amazing Stay!

Has anyone else stayed at the JW Indy recently?  What has your experience been like?

 

Our stay at the JW in Indy this weekend was, as usual, top notch.  We visit Indy 4-5 times a year as we have family in the area, and the JW is always our hotel of choice.  This particular trip revolved around our daughter's cheer competition at the Indiana Convention Center.  The JW is attached to the Convention Center via several enclosed bridges, so the convenience of not having to venture outside in the freezing cold all weekend was great.  (We ate a casual dinner at High Velocity on Friday night, and we enjoyed a wonderful, leisurely meal at Osteria Pronto after the competition on Saturday night --- we never had to leave the complex.)

 

The front desk staff is amazing --- friendly, efficient, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure you have everything needed for a pleasant stay.  Our Platinum status was verbally recognized upon check-in (although we never did receive a Plat arrival gift or an offer of points...however, no complaints whatsoever as our status was acknowledged in a myriad of other ways over the course of the weekend).  Unfortunately, when we asked to be placed in a room with two queen beds as our two children were with us, we were told that there were no queen rooms available (the hotel was apparently at high capacity all weekend due to a Greek sorority/fraternity convention as well as several other corporate meetings).  We were offered a roll-away bed to place in the king room which would have been fine if a bit tight, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask if an upgrade to an Executive Suite was available.  Luckily, it was!  We were placed in an Executive Suite on the 28th floor with an absolutely *amazing* city view.  The pull-out couch in the living room was perfect for the kids, and we enjoyed the privacy of the separate bedroom and bathroom (the shower was awesome, BTW).  An upgrade is never expected but always *so* very appreciated.  Thank you to the wonderful front desk staff for making that happen for us!!

 

At check-in we were given vouchers for breakfast in the lobby rather than in the Executive Lounge.  Apparently, for the past few weeks the hotel has been offering breakfast in the lobby as opposed to the Lounge; the concierge staff member I spoke with wasn't sure if this was going to be a regular thing going forward or if it would only be implemented on crowded weekends.  A section of the lobby (near the bar) was roped off, and you had to present vouchers for each member in your party to a staff member in order to gain entry into the area (it was not open to the general public).  The breakfast offerings were the same as we have been previously offered in the Lounge (eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, a selection of breads and muffins, fruit, cold cuts and cheese, juices, and coffee).  We were all very satisfied with breakfast.    

 

The Executive Lounge is admittedly a bit tight; however, it's an inviting and cozy space (those views!!), so I'd hate for it to be closed all together on weekends in the future. We took advantage of the Lounge during the evening for appetizers and desserts, and, as usual, the staff was very friendly and efficient.  It's so nice to be able to enjoy one of the great Platinum benefits when travelling for leisure as opposed to strictly for business...I wish all Marriott properties had Executive Lounges that were open on the weekends!!  It's definitely one of the special advantages of the JW Indy that makes us want to visit again and again.     

 

One other thing to note --- when we made our reservation using our Marriott Rewards account, we also booked a room for our friends who had daughters cheering at the competition and had traveled down to Indy that same day.  Upon their check-in (which was done about an hour after we had checked in), it appears that they were given some (if not all) of the benefits of our Platinum status.  They received breakfast vouchers and were placed in a room on the 31st concierge floor.  Our friend travels a significant amount for business, but he has never been loyal to a particular brand.  After experiencing the service and benefits of a Platinum Elite this past weekend, he told us that he was very impressed and is inclined to pursue status of his own with Marriott in the future.
