Has anyone stayed at the Moxy Phoenix in Tempe? I'm going out there for work. What brand it is?
That is a new one to me. I will have to check it out the next time I stay at the Residence Inn Tempe Downtown/University. The RI is 2 blocks from the light rail. If you do not need a car for your trip, try the RI and light rail. I have stayed at the RI 3 times with my wife to sue the free Cat 5 night we get on our Marriott CCs
Moxy is the brand. There aren't many so far, maybe half a dozen split mostly between Europe and North America, but more are coming over the next couple years.
Here's some more info on the brand. Moxy Hotels
The marketing focus is on Millennials.
I have stayed at the Moxy in New Orleans. They are all the same style. In my opinion .. I would not stay at a Moxy again. It is designed for the "young and hip" which sounded like fun so I picked it for New Orleans and stayed there with my son. It was not fun and it was not practical at all. There are no closets. Just pegs on the wall. The sink is outside the bathroom. The bathroom has a square (yes square) toilet. There is no iron or coffee maker or other amenities in the room. Instead they have a communal ironing room on each floor which is just not very user friendly when you want to iron in the morning. There are absolutely no benefits for Marriott status ( no free coffee, no free breakfast, no upgrades .. nothing). You have to go downstairs in the morning to get your coffee and pay for it. You do get a free drink when you check-in because you check in at the bar (there is no check in desk). The bed has no box spring is very uncomfortable. There is no furniture in the room other then metal folding chairs hung on the pegs on the wall.
In short .. it is just not a practical room at all. My young son ( 23 years old) did not like it either. I guess there must be a target audience for this but honestly, simple things like a a chair to sit on, coffee maker, iron, comfortable bed etc.. should be in every hotel room regardless of the target audience. I will never stay at a Moxy again but if you read the reviews on TripAdvisor some people do seem to like it.
