Last weekend eclektech and I attended our 3rd trip to the annual Awesome Con Event in DC. You can read about our previous stay here. As with our previous two stays we chose the Marriott Marquis as it just steps away from the convention center.
A few days prior to our arrival I received a nice email from Cameron Vasta, a Rooms Controller for the Marquis DC Hotel. In his email he stated “I wanted to personally reach out and offer my services as your Elite Ambassador. If there is anything specific you require for your stay, please let me know.” I replied to his email and requested a 4pm checkout on Sunday. He quickly replied back and said that was not a problem and it was now noted on my account.
Shortly after checking in we received a knock on the door. A hotel employee handed us a welcome gift from the hotel. I was surprised to find inside the box were two Jefferson cups with a card from Cameron, our Elite Ambassador. It’s definitely a great gift for someone like me who has affiliation with the University of Virginia which was founded by Thomas Jefferson. Definitely the nicest welcome gift I have received from any hotel.
As with our previous stays we were very happy with our stay at this hotel. The rooms are very clean and well kept. The beds are extremely comfortable. The hotel is in a great location, close to the metro and in walking distance to many great restaurants.
Our only disappointment with this stay was the M-Club Lounge was extremely crowded. At 8am on Saturday there was a line inside the lounge for the buffet. On Sunday morning we entered the lounge shortly after it opened at 7am and it was significantly less crowded however we noticed much more traffic by the time we were leaving. There is a lounge attendant outside the door that checks eligibility but this hotel apparently sees a large number of Gold/Platinum members.
We had lots of fun at the Awesome Con Event this year. Last year we got to meet Marvel Legend Stan Lee. This year we finally got to meet long time favorites Tom Welling (Smallville, Lucifer) and Rene Auberjonis (Star Trek) and also reunited with our hero Stephen Amell (Arrow).
