Nine Days in New York City

Blog Post created by razorbackfan on Jul 10, 2017

When I finally got serious about planning a 9-day trip to New York City, I wondered if we would be able to find enough to keep us busy.  I should have worried about having the stamina to do all we wanted to do during that time.

WHERE WE STAYED:

  • Renaissance Midtown
  • Springhill Suites Midtown
  • Courtyard Herald Square

WHY WE CHANGED HOTELS:

  • The rates changed.
  • We wanted to stay in different hotels within a few blocks of each other.
  •   I wanted to get as many summer promotion bonus points as possible.

WHAT TRANSPORTATION WE USED:

  •   Bus 70 and the subway into town from LGA and back.  We bought the 7-day pass for $33.  If I had realized our pass did not cover 24 hours, but the actual day, I would have paid for  $2.75 for the ride into town and bought the pass the next morning.  We also bought another  7-day pass (with only 3 days to go, but we still got our monies worth).
  •   1 taxi ride from the subway to the Botanical Gardens.
  •   Train ride from the Botanical Gardens to Grand Central Station.
  •    A double-decker bus.
  •    Our feet!

WHAT BROADWAY SHOWS WE SAW:

  •    Bandstand
  •    School of Rock
  •    Beautiful
  •    Wicked

WHAT ACTIVITIES WE ENJOYED:

  •      Walked the High Line
  •     Walked the Brooklyn Bridge
  •     New York Botanical Gardens (evening event with Dale Chihully Glass exhibit)
  •     The Met
  •     The Natural History Museum
  •     Intrepid Air and Space Museum
  •     Rode the Staten Island Ferry
  •     Visited the 911 Memorial
  •     Briefly shopped at Macy's
