After another comfortable night at the Timber Ridge and warm cinnamon rolls for breakfast, we headed out. After a quick stop at Jamba Juice where we used a BOGO coupon from the coupon book given to us by the concierge, we were on our way. We encountered no travel problems due to the snow in the area.
We stopped in Old Sacramento for a brief visit. This historic area dates back to 1848 when the discovery of gold attracted many people. At the time, Old Sacramento was the last stop on the Pony Express and the terminus of the transcontinental railroad. This area contains 53 historic buildings including the California State Railroad Museum. You can take an underground tour or a train trip along the Sacramento River.
We had planned to tour the state capitol building and museum, but decided that we just had time to drive past the complex. I had also read about a lovely park area featuring more than 450 varieties of trees and flowering shrubs from around the world, but we'd have to save visiting the gardens until a future trip.
The Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield was our next stop. We enjoyed the factory self-guided tour and spent a little too much time in the retail store where we bought a few gifts for friends including a bag of Belly Flops-jelly bellies which are imperfect.
After our visit, we headed to the Springhill Suites Napa Valley, a lovely property located about 5 miles from Napa. We were astonished at the amount of traffic leaving the Napa area.
