Emirates Boeing 777-200LR at SEA
How could you tell it is a 200LR? I have such a difficult time distinguishing the model variances. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not. Difference between a 734 or 737 and 739 - obvious, between a 738 and 739, not so much.
I am really hoping to fly one of these someday using AS miles.
pluto77, it was plastered on a decal right below the cockpit
Have a hard time telling the difference too, esp with the 737 family. If all else fails, I just look up the registration and you'll get all the info!
I'm not as good as iahflyr... I'm sure he knows all of them by heart already
And I'm sure you'll have better luck riding EK in first on AS miles than I do on my goal of CX and/or EY in first on AA miles
pluto77 put those aircraft recognition skills to work youngster, you got em!!
The 800 doesn't have quite as much fuselage in front of the wing as the 900, and the 900ER has an extra emergency window directly behind the wing from the 900.
This site won't let me load pictures right now so will try later.
Thanks, iahflyr! You have no idea how much time and gray matter I have spent sitting in front of the big window at SEA, watching 73X after 73X taxi, land and/or takeoff, trying to figure out which model, and yes, I have counted windows and window spacing and have just about driven myself crazy (short put actually) many times.
iahflyr is the Master of AvGeeks
pluto77 It looks like we'll get to fly either the 777-200LR or the 777-300ER in a few weeks. Client is sending me to Dubai for some software support, so I will get tickets direct from SEA to DXB on United Emirates(partner with Alaska), and those are the 2 choices. I will be using 85K Alaska miles to book tickets for my wife. kharada46 What did you think of those planes? We will be flying Economy for the 14-hour flight and hope it's relaxing and comfortable. Never flown on United Emirates flights yet, so we are looking forward to it. Hope we can stay in one of the Marriotts while we are there too.
tryt53, I wish I knew! Would love to fly on Emirates one day. I hear the first class is good... business? Not so much.

kharada46, thanks so much for sharing these links. This one, http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/01/04/review-emirates-first-class-a380-los-angeles-to-dubai/, was an awesomely entertaining read! If I was "Lucky" (the author), I'd be giddy and giggling, while suffering a temporary bout of in-flight ADD for the entire flight too!
Glad you enjoyed them pluto77!
Sounds very exciting. I hope you can both get upgraded to at least business class with lie flat seating, due to the lengthly duration of flight. Do you know if Emirates flies any of their A380's out of SEA to DXB? That might be a slightly roomier option (in the main cabin) than a triple 7, though as I've not flown with this airline, I personally wouldn't know for sure. I did fly a triple 7-300 home from LHR in bus class, and peeked back at the main cabin (doing a little recon for future flights, as transoceanic business class is NOT my norm, boo hoo), and the folks back there didn't look all that comfie (11 hr flight). Hey, who would be sitting in an upright chair for that long?
I think the JW Marriott Marquis looks very cool, as does the Ritz Dubai. You will be heading over at the perfect time of year, climate-wise. I hope you will be able to do some fun things like visit the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa (make online reservations NOW), see the water and light show at the lake at the Dubai Mall, as well as take an abra ride in Deira/Dubai Creek and visit some souks (spice and gold). Also, please don't miss the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, only an hours drive away. It is phenomenal. Also, check and see if the Louvre Abu Dhabi and/or the Guggenheim have opened yet. Best wishes, very excited for you both and maybe even a little envious.
Hi pluto77. No, Emirates only flies 777-200LR and 777-300ER non-stop from SEA to DXB. Now if you use Alaska points, you can fly from SEA via LAX or SFO and those both use A380. I've read that in coach there is not that much difference between the 777 and A380, but I would rather try the A380, but it won't work. Mostly due to getting Sandy's ticket via Alaska Partner MIles, and my tickets via payment by the client. It now turns out that we may be going to Malaysia instead, but still flying Emirates to Dubai, staying a couple of nights there, then 10 days in Malaysia, and another night in Dubai on the way home. May get to stay in JW Marriotts the whole way this time Unfortunately, pretty sure we're going to have to stay economy for the whole way
tryt53, I hope wherever your travels take you that it will be enriching. And safe. Please let us know how it shakes out and share your travel experiences with us when you return.
