Runway Watching: LHR Renaissance
I love the upsweep on the wings. Do you know what kind of plane it is?
I know a seasoned flyer or watcher, and maybe even my husband, would know whether these were taking off or landing just by noticing the front wheels and the exhaust, but I don't. Landing or taking off?
All of these are just enthralling!! Thank you for posting.
I defer to experts (I'm guessing IAHFLYR ) on specific models, but - on your latter question - anytime you see that puff of white smoke, you can assume that's a landing (touch down) - all that black on the runway is burnt rubber!!!
Expert as in a former spert? Thanks for the kudos.
That aircraft is a B737-800 or you may see it referenced using the nomenclature used for flight plans and flight schedules on an airline website as a B738. The aircraft has just landed and the puff of smoke you see is as SSINDC mentions is from the tires not moving until they hit the runway, so the tires are sort of skidding at that moment until they get up to the speed the aircraft is actually moving on the runway at that time which is around 150 knots/hour or approximately 165 MPH.
