    In the rear of the General Morgan Inn is the 1821 Dickson-Williams Mansion, which served as Confederate and Union officers' quarters during the Civil War, including General John Hunt Morgan, "Thunderbolt of the Confederacy",  before he was surprised by Union soldiers and  shot and killed by a sniper  near the front lawn of the mansion.
